Aircon Repairs

Aircon Depot handles fault finding, breakdown repairs and planned maintenance for domestic and commercial systems. Each service page focuses on a common need so clients can understand what to expect before booking.

Aircon Repairs

Choose the repair that matches the fault

Not every air conditioner needs the same fix. A unit that is blowing warm air, tripping the breaker, leaking water or cycling on and off may need anything from a blocked drain clear-out to a compressor change. That is why this hub page exists. It helps homeowners, landlords, offices and small factories understand the common repair paths before they book.

For Durban conditions, the trouble often starts with dust, salt air and long hours of use. In coastal areas like Clairwood, South Durban and the harbour side, corrosion and damp can shorten component life. During load shedding, systems can also suffer from voltage swings and repeated start-stop stress. Picking the right repair early can save time and prevent extra damage.

Fault finding for units that are not behaving normally

Fault finding is the best place to start when the problem is unclear. Our technicians check the control signals, electrical parts, gas pressures, drainage and airflow to trace the cause instead of guessing. This suits systems that are not cooling properly, are noisy, smell odd, or shut down without warning.

  • Compressor not starting or cutting out
  • Indoor fan running but little cooling
  • Breaker tripping after start-up
  • Water dripping inside the room
  • Error codes, flashing lights or unresponsive controls

Once the fault is confirmed, we explain the next step in plain terms. In many cases the repair is small, but on older units a failing part can point to a bigger service issue that should be handled before the next breakdown. That saves repeat call-outs and avoidable downtime.

Breakdown repairs for homes, shops and offices

When an air conditioner stops working completely, you need a breakdown repair that gets the unit back in service quickly. We attend domestic split systems, small commercial setups and larger premises across Durban Central, North Durban, West Durban and the wider metro. The aim is to restore cooling, not just patch the symptom.

Common breakdown work includes compressor replacement, fan motor repair, capacitor and contactor changes, drain blockage clearing and control repairs. If the fault is linked to low gas, we test for leaks before any regas work is done. That matters because topping up gas without finding the leak usually means the same problem comes back. On busy sites, we also plan the work around trading hours where possible so your staff and customers are not left sweating.

Regas, leak checks and compressor issues

Low gas is one of the most misunderstood faults. An aircon should not need gas added over and over. If a system is short on refrigerant, there is usually a leak at a joint, coil or service valve. Our regas and leak check service is there to find the source first, then recharge correctly once the repair is done.

Compressor problems are more serious and often show up as poor cooling, loud starting, or a unit that runs but does not deliver cold air. We test the electrical side, assess the compressor condition and advise whether repair or replacement makes sense. In some older systems it is not worth putting money into repeated short-term fixes when a major part is failing.

Maintenance that prevents repeat call-outs

Many aircon repairs can be reduced with regular maintenance. Filters block, coils foul up, drains clog and electrical parts wear out. In Durban’s humid air, a neglected unit can lose performance quickly and start dripping, smelling musty or running up power use. Planned maintenance is useful for homes with heavy daily use and for businesses that need consistent cooling through summer.

Our maintenance work includes deep cleaning, drain checks, control testing, electrical tightening and general performance checks. For commercial clients, we can set a maintenance rhythm that suits the site, whether that means pre-summer servicing, quarterly visits or scheduled after-hours work. That helps avoid surprise failures when the office is full or the shop is busiest.

Spare parts, stock support and areas we cover

Having the right spare part on hand can make the difference between a same-day repair and a delayed return visit. Our spares and gas support helps with common parts needed for domestic and commercial systems, including capacitors, contactors, fan motors and control components. Where parts are available, we move fast. Where a match needs to be confirmed, we check carefully so the fitted part is the right one.

We work from Clairwood and cover Durban Central, South Durban, North Durban, West Durban and the greater eThekwini area. If your unit is in a townhouse, office block, retail space or industrial unit, we can help with diagnosis, repair and follow-up support. For landlords and body corporates, it also helps to have one team handling fault reports, spares and maintenance records so there is less back-and-forth.

Aircon Depot was founded in 2008 and our team includes Kavitha Naidoo, Anele Mkhize, Yusuf Ismail, Nokuthula Zungu, Ridwaan Khan and Kgaogelo Mashaba. You get a local Durban point of contact, practical advice and work that fits the conditions we deal with every day.

Questions we get asked

How do I know if my aircon needs gas or a repair?

If the unit has low cooling once in a while, a leak or blocked filter may be the issue. If it keeps losing gas, there is usually a leak that must be found and fixed first.

Can you help with breakdowns after load shedding?

Yes. We handle call-outs for units that trip, fail to restart, or show electrical faults after power interruptions and voltage changes.

Do you repair both home and commercial air conditioners?

Yes. We work on domestic split systems and commercial installations across Clairwood and greater eThekwini, including planned maintenance and urgent repairs.
