Our Durban story, started in Clairwood
Aircon Depot began in 2008 with one clear idea: Durban customers needed an air-conditioning team that could supply, install and repair systems without the delays and confusion that often come with bigger operators. From our base in Clairwood, we have grown by doing the simple things properly, arriving when we say we will, diagnosing faults accurately and giving honest advice about what is worth repairing and what is not.
Our work has always been shaped by local conditions. In Durban Central, South Durban and the coastal areas, salt air and moisture shorten the life of parts. In inland homes and workshops, dust and power interruptions can create other problems. We have built our service around these realities, so whether it is a split unit in a flat or a commercial system in a busy premises, we know what usually goes wrong and how to sort it out.
What we stand for on every job
We value straight answers, clean workmanship and respect for the customer’s time. If a unit only needs a capacitor, we say so. If a compressor is near the end of its life, we explain the options in plain language and help you choose the most practical route for your budget.
Our team works on the basis that good service is measured long after the call-out is over. That means neat installations, proper leak checks, correct gas levels and a final test before we leave. It also means keeping communication open so customers know what is happening, how long it will take and what the next step should be.
- Honest fault finding before any replacement is recommended
- Work that suits Durban’s heat, humidity and coastal wear
- Clear pricing and practical advice for homes and businesses
- Respect for the property, from the first visit to the last test
The people behind the depot
Aircon Depot is led by Kavitha Naidoo, our Managing Director, with day-to-day operations managed by Anele Mkhize. Our senior technician Yusuf Ismail handles technical troubleshooting and repairs, while Nokuthula Zungu coordinates installations and scheduling so jobs move efficiently. Ridwaan Khan leads our spares and gas side, and Kgaogelo Mashaba looks after customer care and follow-up.
We believe customers should know who is responsible for their job. That is why our team structure is simple and practical. You are dealing with people who understand the work, not a call centre that has to pass every detail along twice. It saves time and reduces mistakes, which matters when a system has stopped cooling or a business needs a fast return to normal.
How we handle installs, repairs and call-outs
Our approach depends on the fault and the site. For new installations, we assess the room size, usage, power supply and airflow before recommending a unit or layout. For repairs, we start with proper fault finding, then move to the most sensible fix, whether that is fan motor repair, controls repair, drain clearing, gas leak detection or compressor replacement.
We also handle breakdown call-outs for urgent situations, especially where stock, staff comfort or customer service is affected. In many cases, problems are made worse by earlier rushed work, so we check the whole system not just the obvious symptom. It is better to fix the cause once than to keep going back for the same fault.
- Fault finding for domestic and commercial systems
- Regas and leak checks for loss of cooling
- Drain blockages cleared to prevent leaking and water damage
- Deep clean service and planned maintenance for better performance
Why maintenance matters in Durban conditions
Durban air-conditioning systems work hard. Coastal humidity, salt in the air and regular power interruptions all shorten the service life of components. A unit that is not cleaned properly can start drawing more power, cooling less and tripping more often. That is why planned maintenance is part of how we work, not an afterthought.
We encourage customers to look after filters, drainage and general cleanliness between visits, especially in busy homes, shops and offices. A regular service can help prevent sudden breakdowns in summer and can also reduce the strain caused by frequent outages. Small issues catch up quickly here, so it pays to act early rather than waiting until the unit stops working completely.
Serving Clairwood and greater eThekwini
Our main base is in Clairwood, but our work reaches across Durban Central, South Durban, North Durban, West Durban and the wider eThekwini area. We understand the pace of local business and the practical needs of households in different parts of the city. A workshop in South Durban may need a different response from a family home in North Durban, and we plan our service accordingly.
We are set up to support both one-off repairs and ongoing maintenance. That includes helping with spares, gas supply and component replacement when needed, so customers do not have to chase multiple suppliers for a single job. The aim is simple: keep systems running properly, with less downtime and fewer repeat call-outs.
